Mission

The mission of Clongowes Wood College is to educate its pupils according to the vision of the Gospel and the best traditions and highest standards of Jesuit schooling, as expressed in The Characteristics of Jesuit Education.

Clongowes is a Catholic boarding school located in beautiful surroundings twenty miles from Dublin and draws its pupils from all over Ireland and abroad. It aims to create an open, happy, stimulating, mutually respectful and supportive community where young people are able to develop the full range of their talents and academic abilities in a balanced, integrated and generous way, striving for excellence in all that they do.

It is our conviction that human fulfillment is to be found through faith in Jesus Christ and the service of Ireland and the world in imitation of Him. In partnership with parents, we seek to form pupils who will strive to develop that faith and to give Christian leadership through the example of their lives and their commitment to a renewal of the Church and a more just, inclusive and caring society.

Our mission is well captured in the ‘Prayer for Generosity’ composed by the founder of the Jesuits, St Ignatius of Loyola:

Dear Lord,

Teach me to be generous:
To serve you as you deserve;
To give and not to count the cost;
To fight and not to heed the wounds;
To toil and not to seek for rest;
To labour and to ask for no reward
Save that of knowing that I do your holy will.
