The Clongowes Foundation formed in 2004 is a charitable trust to fund-raise for College capital development and latterly in 2007, to include the Alberto Hurtado Bursary Programme. Clongowes has made great progress over the past twelve years, enhancing the campus with fine new facilities—a new library, new science and art block, new sports hall and a new special education centre. Currently the indoor 25 metre swimming pool is under construction and is scheduled to open to our students in September 2017.
The Alberto Hurtado Bursary Programme was established in 2007 with a target that by our Bicentenary celebrations in 2014-2015 ten per cent of our student population would be on bursaries. It has been a wonderful success. The students on bursaries are fully integrated into the life of the school and are doing very well indeed. Now in its ninth year, three groups have already graduated. All development (capital and bursary), is funded through the Clongowes Foundation team which comprises of:
Martin Nugent – Chair of Fundraising
Michelle Burke – Fundraising Manager
Aine Burns – Development Officer
The Foundation supports our alumni with networking events in Ireland, London and recently USA, Hong-Kong and Australia. We have created, with the support of the Clongowes Union, platforms such as ‘The Alumnus of the Year Award’ and the ‘Clongowes Mentor Programme’ making Clongowes relevant to all our OC’s today.
The Foundations’ responsibility is to nurture relationships and secure funding to realise the agreed development plans of the College and the Alberto Hurtado Bursary Programme.
Experience tells us that to achieve success we need gifts at all levels from as many of our constituents as possible. Our constituents include, alumni, parents of alumni, current parents, the Jesuit Community, friends of Clongowes and Trusts. We welcome all gifts, at all levels and at your own capacity.
LEADING THE CLONGOWES 2020 VISION CAMPAIGN
Clongowes 2020 is led by Mr Chris Lumb, Headmaster, supported by the Fundraising Committee
The Foundation reports to the Foundation Trustees and the College Board of Management. Foundation Governance: The Clongowes Wood College Foundation is a legal entity and has a Board of Trustees appointed by the Provincial. The role of the Clongowes Foundation Trustees is to ensure correct governance in all fiduciary matters relating to the Clongowes Foundation.
Patrick Halpenny (Chairman & Alumnus); Fr. Michael Sheil SJ; Chris Lumb Headmaster, Peter Murphy (Provincial’s Office); Joe Rooney (Alumnus). Ray Kenny (Director of Finance and Administration) attends meetings. Other trustees may be appointed subject to approval by the Provincial.
The role of the Fundraising Committee is to support the Clongowes Foundation in its fundraising capacity and is made up of two alumni, two current parents and two parents of alumni.
Others may be co-opted by the Chair of the Trustees as required.
2016 has seen the work of the Clongowes Foundation grow apace. Invigorated by 2013 – 2015s successful fundraising which has resulted in the current construction of the Clongowes 25metre indoor swimming pool, we focus now on funding the Board of Managements’ priority projects; Bursary Programme and Capital projects (see below).
As we develop and grow relationships with our alumni, parents and friends we encourage all our constituents to support us, at their own capacity, thereby ensuring that Clongowes is well prepared for the decades ahead. This support will secure our position at the forefront of Irish education into the next century. For the Foundation it is about this and future generations of Clongownians, optimising our students potential.
